ZIP with AES-256 encryption

Postby ohmer » Fri Sep 21, 2012 3:48 pm

Hello,

I succeeded to unzip a zip file encrypted with AES-256 by Winzip.

But now, I'm trying to make a zip file encrypted with AES-256. By default, Keka use "Zip 2.0 legacy" encryption method when a password is specified.

There is a way to use AES-256 or it's unsupported?

Thank you!

Sorry for the late response. It seems that the default behavior in 7zip (p7zip) is to use this encryption for Zip files. I'll fix that.

Progress on that will be on the ticket 18

Sorry for the question, but when you mean "I'm going to add this feature as an option. Hidden option in 1.0.4, adding it as a GUI option in the next revision," does that mean that the zip AES-256 encryption is now the default for zip compression? I just downloaded the beta, and the Mac's Archive Utility is not opening it, so I'm assuming that this is the new default because you mentioned that the default compressor in not compatible with AES-256 (I have Mac OS X 10.8.3). Could you explain please? Thank you for such an amazing application!!!!!

Let me check this and get back to you since now I don't remember exactly if it was enabled by default.

Hi there,

I'm also interested in the response to this question.

Does the latest v. of Keka support 7zip compression using AES-256 encryption?

Thanks.

Hi. I'm new to Keka.

I'd also appreciate clarity on this topic.

Does Keka support AES-256 encryption in 7z format?

Does Keka support AES-256 encryption in ZIP format?

Thanks much,
